At Bag It Bin It (accessible via bagitbinit.com and our native mobile applications), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting any data we process. This Privacy Policy details the types of information we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding your data in accordance with the Apple App Store and Google Play Store developer guidelines.

1. Data Collection & Processing

To provide our offline-first mapping, distance tracking, and notification services, we process the following data:

Precise Geolocation Data

Our application requires access to your device's precise GPS coordinates to function. This data is used on-device to show your current location on the map, compute the distance to your tagged bags, and trigger proximity alerts. Coordinates of tagged bags (latitude and longitude) are transmitted to our secure servers to enable background push reminders and synchronization. This location data is stored anonymously and is never linked to your real-world identity, email address, or name.

Push Notification Data

When you enable background reminders, we generate and store an anonymous push notification token (subscription object) in our secure database. This token is used exclusively by our notification scheduler to route silent reminders when you walk away from a tagged bag, and is deleted when notifications are disabled or the bag is marked as retrieved.

Device Storage & LocalStorage

We use browser localStorage to store a unique, randomly generated anonymous identifier (UUID) that identifies your specific device. This is used solely to link your device to the active bag tags and waste bins you create, allowing you to manage your placements. We also use local storage to cache coordinates and queue actions for offline synchronization.

Support & Feedback Data

If you contact us via our Feedback Form, we collect your email address and message contents. This information is processed solely to respond to your inquiries and troubleshoot issues, and is never shared, rented, or used for marketing purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We process the collected data for the following specific purposes:

  • To display your current position on the map and orient the navigation compass.
  • To record, sync, and display the markers of your tagged dog poo bags.
  • To calculate real-time proximity and display distances to your closest bags.
  • To send silent background notifications reminding you of active tags.
  • To enable crowd-sourced dog waste bin reports and voting validations.
  • To reply to customer support requests submitted via the feedback system.

3. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your anonymous data to outside parties. However, our application integrates with select third-party services that may process standard network information (like your IP address) or place cookies:

  • Map Tiles Providers: We load map visual assets from OpenStreetMap (OSM) and CartoDB (CARTO). These providers receive standard network requests necessary to serve map tiles to your device.
  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to gather anonymous, aggregated usage data (such as page views, device types, and session duration) to help us analyze and improve the application. No personally identifiable data is sent to Google.
  • SMTP Email Service: When sending support requests, email payloads are routed securely through our transactional SMTP server.

4. Data Retention & User Deletion Rights

We retain data only as long as necessary to fulfill the services described in this policy:

  • Bag Coordinates: Active bag markers are automatically deleted from our servers 7 days after they are marked as retrieved. Dropped bag markers that are left inactive are deleted automatically after 48 hours.
  • Self-Service Deletion: You can delete all your database bag markers instantly at any time by using the "Clear Map" button located in the application navigation menu. Reports of waste bins can be removed by the creator using the "Remove" option in the bin's popup.
  • Erasure Requests: If you wish to verify or request manual deletion of any support feedback emails or associated data, you can email us at any time.

5. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for or marketed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect, store, or process personal or location information from children under the age of 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately from our records.

6. Security

We implement robust, industry-standard administrative and technical security measures (such as HTTPS encryption and SQLite database sanitization) to protect your location parameters and connection tokens from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
